Great jazz pianist, played with Krupa, Chu Berry, Ben Webster, Goodman, Lester Young, and especially great work with Billie Holiday. Pianist, arranger, band leader. Beautiful stylist, classically trained. At his best in my view early on, in the 1930s. Here he is with Goodman and Krupa playing in his Orchestra, in LA in 1937. The song -The Hour of Parting – is co-written by Gus Kahn and Mischa Spoliansky, a refugee from Hitler’s Germany.
